About Alan
Alan Hanson is a contemporary Australian artist whose work explores abstraction through landscape, texture and the natural environment. Drawing inspiration from the forests, hinterland and native flora surrounding his home and studio in Kin Kin, his practice reflects a deep connection to place and the quiet rhythms of life immersed in nature.
Before retirement, Alan worked as a Manual Arts teacher specialising in woodworking and metalwork. A lifelong maker and educator, creativity, craftsmanship and hands-on learning have always formed a central part of his life. His background continues to influence his artistic approach, bringing a strong sense of materiality, balance and process to each piece.
Living in the picturesque Noosa Hinterland, Alan’s work is shaped by the changing landscape around him — shifting light through trees, weathered textures, native flowers and the organic patterns found in the environment. Through layered forms, movement and abstraction, his paintings seek to capture both the physical and emotional essence of the Australian landscape in a contemporary and expressive way.
Working from the Kin Kin Art Studio, housed within the restored former St Luke’s Anglican Church, Alan creates pieces that invite stillness, reflection and connection. His practice is grounded in authenticity, curiosity and an ongoing appreciation for the relationship between creativity, nature and everyday life.
Over the years, Alan’s creative practice has evolved into a dedicated full-time pursuit, culminating in the transformation of the Kin Kin Art Studio — a space that now serves as both a working studio and a place to share his art more personally with visitors by appointment.
